The island venue is presenting 11 works crafted over a 17-year period, including a special commission unveiled just for this show: Present in the Past, a geode-encrusted hammerhead shark.
The Nasher Sculpture Center has reveled in Swenson’s work with a past exhibition, and the Talley Dunn Gallery counts Swenson among its elite artists. His life partner is the woman behind Cris Worley Fine Arts, a fixture in the Design District.
“Everything I do is a narrative,” Swenson once said. “It’s about death, about the pointlessness of our existence. That’s what art is, making subtler subtexts about other things.”
