New Delhi: If you’re someone who’s health conscious, you probably know how drinking water can help with your fitness and overall health. Drinking enough water helps boost your metabolism, improve digestion, and cleanses your system of harmful toxins which might get accumulated in the body fat tissue, increasing the risk of obesity and other health conditions. In fact, water also acts as an appetite suppressant, and thus, it makes you consume fewer calories. In fact, there have been a number of studies suggesting keeping the body well-hydrated by drinking more water can help with weight loss and maintenance.

But, turns out, there is a secret way that can help you achieve your weight loss goals fast. Surprisingly, that particular trick is outside of dieting and exercising. Guess what? Just drink water that is not at ‘room temperature’ to boost weight loss and maintain overall health. According to a study, drinking cold water can actually increase weight loss as it further enhances the body’s calorie burning. To come to this conclusion, the study analysed 24 people, out of which, 12 of them were made to drink 500ml of cold water, whereas the other 12 participants drank water at room temperature. After drinking water, both the groups burned between two and three per cent more calories than usual in the 90 minutes.

However, the results showed that drinking cold water further increased the body’s ability to burn calories. The study also found that drinking water may temporarily increase the body’s resting energy expenditure, which means the number of calories the body burns while resting. This can lead to modest weight loss.

Meanwhile, it is believed that drinking warm water, particularly the first thing in the morning can promote fat loss by increasing the body’s temperature and metabolic rate. Truth is, hydration plays a big role when it comes to staying fit and healthy, and consuming a sufficient amount of water is the key.

While staying hydrated is crucial for overall health and well-being, one should make healthier lifestyle choices such as eating a healthy diet, staying physically active, getting enough sleep, managing stress levels and other health conditions in order to stay fit and healthy.
