“Organic Gardening” and “12 Essential Garden Tools” are the topics for the June 7 meeting of the East Baton Rouge Master Gardener Association at the East Baton Rouge Parish Fairwood Branch Library, 12910 Old Hammond Highway.
The program, which is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
“Organic Gardening” is designed for home gardeners who want to minimize their use of chemical fertilizers and herbicides. Master gardener Claire Fontenot will offer tips on enriching soil naturally and will describe how everyday items such as vinegar, salt and newspaper can be used to kill or suppress weeds. She also will discuss natural pest management practices, including companion planting and beneficial insects.
In the “12 Essential Garden Tools” session, master gardener Richard Babin will describe the dozen hand tools he thinks every gardener should own and offer tips on selecting the right tool for the task and situation.
